Virginia Beach City FC Supporting Youth Soccer Through Trident Cup
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (November 28, 2018) — As a part of the club's continued mission to support the development of youth soccer and grow the game both locally and regionally, Virginia Beach City FC is hosting the first ever Trident Cup this coming weekend on Dec. 1 and 2.
"We’re excited to host the Trident Cup," said VB City FC head coach Brian Hinkey. "It should be a very nice event. We are grateful to be hosting teams from the local area, in Virginia and out of state. The competition level should be fun and challenging, and the facilities are in great shape. I hope everyone has a great time this year and we can continue to build the event."
Several Virginia Academy clubs will be participating in the tournament, including VB City FC, Beach FC, Richmond Strikers, Fredericksburg SC, Epic SC, Commonwealth FC, and Piedmont Youth Soccer League. Academy clubs from North Carolina will be making the trip as well. Overall, 60 boys and girls youth teams will compete.
The weekend tournament will be held at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex, a seven-field compound right next to the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, the home of Virginia Beach's only professional sports team, VB City FC.
VB City FC announced on Monday that the club was turning it's semi-professional men's soccer team into a professional team that will compete in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in 2019. The move cements Virginia Beach City FC as the only soccer club in the Hampton Roads area capable of developing youth players into professionals year-round.
Virginia Beach City FC would like to thank Buffalo Wild Wings at Landstown Commons, Virginia Beach Fieldhouse, Page Auto Group - Richmond, Copico, Senator John Cosgrove (District 14), Explosive Performance (Redmill), and Soccer Corner for their support and sponsorship in hosting the Trident Cup.
