NORFOLK, Va. (June 5, 2019) — Fresh off an inspiring and impressive victory in the NPSL Game of the Week, Virginia Beach City FC is set to embark on a critical road trip to take on Northern Virginia United on Sat., June 8 at 7 p.m.
Making a Statement
Saturday's match won't set in stone the results of the NPSL Mid-Atlantic division, but it could go a long way in securing the division title for Virginia Beach City FC. VB City FC has seven points through three NPSL games, holding a three-point lead over Charlottesville Alliance FC and a four-point advantage over Northern Virginia United.
VB City FC has set themselves up nicely, but a win on Saturday would give them a leg up on the entire division with just a few matches left to play. VB City FC has all the momentum, thanks to a dominating 4-0 win vs. FC Frederick on June 2.
VB City FC's Biggest Threat
At the moment, Northern Virginia United is the biggest threat to VB City FC's division lead. Northern Virginia United has played just once this season, routing FC Frederick 5-0 on May 29. Despite playing just one match, Northern Virginia United is second in goal differential in the division, and they sit fourth in the NPSL Power Rankings. VB City FC currently stands at 15th.

VB City FC's midfielders vs. Northern Virginia United's midfielders — Both offenses in this match are as good as it gets. VB City FC's forwards bring unmatched pace and depth, while Northern Virginia United is one of the most talented teams in the NPSL. If either group of forwards get too many chances, they're bound to score. This creates an emphasis on maintaining possession, and it'll be up to VB City FC's group to control the ball and present their forwards with opportunities.
